Imperial College Rugby is excited to announce that the sponsor for the 2015/16 season is Green Giraffe.

Green Giraffe is a financial advisory firm focused entirely on the renewable energy sector. Created in 2010 by renewable energy professionals, Green Giraffe combined the expertise of project finance bankers and project developers with deep experience in offshore wind. The company has grown in size from the handful of founders to over forty employees. Now working in all renewable technologies, with headquarters in Paris and Utrecht, and offices in London and Hamburg, the company continues to expand at a high speed.

Green Giraffe provides a number of different services; arranging non-recourse financings, raising equity, helping negotiate commercial contracts, assisting in acquisitions or divestments and supporting strategic decisions in the sector. Between Q3 2014 and Q2 2015, Green Giraffe advised on over €4 billion of transactions, giving it the number one spot in the IJ Global financial advisor rankings in the renewable energy sector, and number four in Europe across all sectors.

With the presence of three ICURFC alumni (graduates of ’07, ’09 and ’15) in the London office, there is a strong link with the company…

Imperial hosted Kings’ Medics at Harlington, looking for a win to bounce back from a disappointing defeat last week. IC got off to a bright start, dominating possession, territory and hitting hard in the contact. However, errors crept in at crucial stages, allowing the virginity of the Kings’ tryline to somehow remain intact. After 25 minutes all the home side had to show for their dominance was a single penalty from resident South African, Charles “I can’t remember that Japan game” Price-Smith. The team had also taken a devastating casualty with the loss of Tom Hedley to a broken rib. The team wept, but through their tears they could see victory on the horizon.

As the half moved on, a couple of infringements gave the medics a bit of territory in the imperial half. Kings managed to work an overlap and send the winger in some space down their left hand side. With the ultra reliable Billy Sixtrees deciding to take a ten-minute breather (having spent the rest of the half slicing through the Kings defence), we were left without a natural full back, and Kings scored in the corner, giving them a 5-3 lead going into the break.

However, it didn’t take Imperial long to regain the advantage after half time. A few strong…

The Dallaglio Foundation uses the disciplines of rugby to increase the future prospects of children from disadvantaged backgrounds at risk from long-term unemployment, criminality and imprisonment. Imperial College Rugby share this vision with The Dallaglio Foundation and have entered in to a partnership with them in order to raise the profile of the charity.

The Foundation works across the country in Newcastle, Bristol and Cardiff and the Imperial squad will be lending there experience to aid in the London area, helping with Fund raising and coaching aspects of the program. Through this the club will aid these disadvantaged children through a three stage journey from:

  • Engagement – minimising the impact of their past
  • Integration – making better decisions in the present
  • Achievement – planning for a more successful future

The players at imperial know the positive impact that rugby has had on there life and wish to pass that experience on to others less privileged than themselves.

Imperial 1st team started their season with a bang dispatching medway 37-0. The match ran with Imperial dominating from the start, with big collisions being the theme of the opening encounters. This resulted in Imperial going ahead early from a penalty. With Imperial camped out on the medway line, Club Captain and number 10 for the day, Charles Price-Smith fired a double miss pass out to the towering wing Josh O’Donnell to dot down for the opening try of the match. Imperial then capitalised on medway indiscipline at the break down taking field position and working their lineout, constructing a mall on the opposition line before driving over twice in succession, both trys being scored by number 8 Tom Hedley.

Play then broke up with Chris MacBeth threatening the Medway defence. Captain Dave Nielsen-Scott carried well before being swiftly inverted by the opposition and mixed like the human martini that he is, luckily for Imperial the captain appear to have been stirred rather than shaken by the experience going on to carry the ball 50 meters later in the game only for the ball to die at the hands of Carlos Sheppard.

In the second half Imperial fell foul of a string of penalties resulting in the illustrious honorary…
